• hypnosis for pain reduction

Did you know that during the American Civil war some surgeons used hypnosis to help their patients control pain during amputations? It's not surprising, given the plethora of modern anaesthetic techniques, that hypnotherapy is sometimes regarded as a “new” way of treating pain – and yet there are medical examples going back decades. Take a look at this article, where a man recounts his mother’s experience of having a caesarean section with the help of clinical hypnosis in the 1960s.

Today hypnosis for pain reduction is widely reported. Some of my colleagues regularly visit a hospital in Cardiff to help chemotherapy patients deal with issues related to their treatment – alleviating discomfort, helping with nausea and inspiring greater determination to see a course of treatment through.
